🧠 School Counselor & MTSS Support at Beattie

Mrs. Stephanie Coleman is our dedicated school counselor at Beattie Elementary. Her role centers on creating a caring, supportive learning environment where students feel safe, heard, and understood—no matter the concern.

🌟 What a School Counselor Does

  • Works with students individually or in small groups to address social-emotional concerns, mental health, peer relationships, and self-regulation.
  • Delivers classroom guidance lessons, fostering resilience, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Serves as a resource for staff and families, collaborating to support student success.

🔄 MTSS: A Multi-Tiered Framework

Beattie counselor services are deeply integrated into the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework:

  1. Tier 1: Universal Support
    • Classroom lessons and school-wide initiatives promoting emotional well-being, kindness, and problem-solving among all students.
    • Support for widespread social-emotional learning and psychological safety.
  2. Tier 2: Targeted Interventions
    • Small-group sessions focused on areas such as emotional regulation, social skills, and peer relationships.
    • Works proactively with students showing early signs of social, emotional, or behavioral concerns.
  3. Tier 3: Intensive, Individualized Support
    • One-on-one counseling tailored for students with specific needs such as anxiety, grief, trauma, or other personal challenges.
    • Collaboration with families, teachers, and specialists to identify needs and develop Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals.

This MTSS-aligned approach ensures students receive the right level of support at the right time, promoting emotional wellness alongside academic and behavioral success.

🎯 Our Shared Goals

  • Empower students to understand their emotions, build healthy relationships, and advocate for themselves.
  • Strengthen the positive school environment through ongoing collaboration among counselors, educators, support staff, and families.
  • Use data-driven decision-making to monitor student progress through formal assessments, teacher observations, and counselor-led insights.
