📚 Literacy Enrichment at Beattie Elementary

At Beattie, our Literacy Intervention Team is committed to helping all readers “crack the code” through a well-structured, MTSS-aligned approach. We partner with families and classroom teachers to provide the right support at the right time.

🎯 Our MTSS Framework

Tier 1 – Universal:

  • All students receive high-quality literacy instruction within co-taught classrooms—aligned with evidence-based, science-of-reading best practices.
  • Teachers embed differentiated instruction, small-group reading, and literacy strategies in daily lessons.

Tier 2 – Targeted:

  • When students require extra support, they are placed in WIN (What I Need) reading intervention groups with our Literacy Team.
  • Groups of 4–6 students, meeting 30–45 minutes, four days/week, focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension through hands-on, kinesthetic approaches .

Tier 3 – Intensive:

  • For students with persistent reading difficulties, we increase intervention intensity by providing specialized small-group or individual sessions using diagnostic assessments and data-driven goals .
  • Frequency, duration, and focus adapt based on ongoing progress monitoring.

🛠️ Our Intervention Approach

During WIN time, students:

  • Learn through direct instruction and live modeling
  • Practice with repetition, games, and multisensory tools
  • Develop strategies to boost decoding and comprehension
  • Participate in guided reading and peer-practice activities
  • Have progress each session monitored to ensure growth

🌟 Goals & Outcomes

  • Empower lifelong readers who appreciate the joy of reading
  • Ensure students find success at their level, building fluency, confidence, and independence
  • Use data-based instruction: universal screeners (e.g., DIBELS, READ), progress monitoring every 1–3 weeks, and benchmark assessments guide instruction
  • Adjust instruction in real time to address gaps quickly and effectively
