After graduating, I moved to Malibu, CA to attend Pepperdine University. I earned a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Spanish concentration and then spent the summer teaching English in Montevideo, Uruguay through the Let’s Start Talking program. Happily, I moved back to Fort Collins, CO and have truly appreciated all that my childhood city represents. Then, I went back to school and completed a Master’s program and received an M.A. degree in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
I began my teaching career in 1995, and I absolutely LOVE what I do every day! I taught English in South America the summer following my undergraduate work, and then I spent my first ten years as a bilingual 1st grade teacher in the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont, CO. In 2005, I decided to transfer into the Poudre School District where I’ve lived all along. It was a wonderful decision, and I’ve been a 2nd grade teacher at Beattie Elementary ever since!
When I picture what I want for my own children to experience at school and in life, I see that picture lived out on a daily basis at Beattie Elementary, and 2nd grade is a great place to be! School-wide, we have a Positive Behavior and Intervention Support system (PBIS) which focuses on building a respectful climate for all areas of learning. Students learn about and practice mindfulness. They are in charge of and respectful of their own learning, and they demonstrate that same level of respectfulness towards others. We truly believe that our mistakes are learning opportunities! Beattie has a warm and inviting environment, and people who volunteer or visit always have positive comments about their experiences here. Beattie is all-around a wonderful place to be!
I have been married to Scott since 2000, and we have two wonderfully adventurous children named Caleb and Caitlin. During the school year, our family stays busy enjoying all that Fort Collins has to offer both indoors and out. We enjoy our time off together in the summers with visits to and from our family in Montana, Texas, California, and Indiana, and playing with friends here. In my free time I enjoy yoga, walking, reading, and playing co-ed softball. Fort Collins is clearly a great place to live and work, and it is a real treat to live in such a wonderful community that supports our amazing school district!
